Why another? It is not like I write a lot. Well to be honest I guess I always intend to read, write and post more. But the ugly truth is, it has became kind of my habit to draft posts from time to time, though few of them got eventually finished. That said, I am toying around with this very interesting blog generator that is powered by Bash. Firing bash commands, writing in my beloved Vim editor, and (automatically) converting markdown files to html files for publishing, the whole process is simple, elegant but nevertheless intuiging to me. It would also occurred to me as friendly if I ever want to write and post on other platforms, be it BSD, Windows (oh god I hope I won't [have to] do this often) or even Android.
Aother thing is, I do like the Hugo pipeline too as it is also quite simple with minimal dependencies. Setting up a Hugo-powered blog takes a few minutes. However I did got into small issues when there were breaking changes and deprecated feature complains from time to time which usually required mannual fix. Also Hugo requires external themes, meaning external dependencies. I am not a dev of any kind, writing a Hugo theme is simply someting I am not capable of, so I have to pick a (random) theme, probbably from many hundreds or thousands online, and start using, hoping it will continue to work. The truth is, these random themes got discontinued all the time. So the next time a feature required by the theme stops working, no one is going to fix it. Hugo itself may evolve continously, the theme I choose may easily fall behind and stop working. Not to mention themes themselves depend other things that are way beyond my control, JavaScript files, to name one here. To avoid, I considered themes/tools that rely on as fewer external dependencies as possible when choosing themes or tools I use to set up.
So to answer the question, why another?
Why not if I can and I want.
